「小泉明郎ナイト！感じる作品」レポート Event report: 'Meiro Koizumi Night! Sensing artwork'

実験的な試みによって作り出された、完全に視覚を奪われた異空間。
暗闇に加えて、複数で来場された方々は敢えて離ればなれになるようにご案内しました。トーク開始を待つ間、闇の中で嘘か本当か分からない自己紹介をし合うことで、日常の世界からどんどん切り離されていきます。お互いに姿は見えずとも、この空間にいる人々の、これから始まることへの期待感や興奮が伝わってきます。

ミニトーク開始時間になり、それまで壁しかないと知覚していた場所から、「どうも、小泉です」と、ぬっと存在をあらわした小泉氏。「六本木クロッシング2013展」にて現在展示されている作品＜最後の詩＞について、川村氏や高川氏を交えて意見の交換がなされました。

新作に対する川村氏の鋭く忌憚ない観点、また、会場の参加者からの率直な意見や、明るい場所で目を合わせていては聞きづらい質問、小泉氏自身による作品制作の動機や解説、また自身が作品に登場する際のモチベーションの保ち方など、盛り沢山の内容のトークになりました。目を開けていても見えるものが全くない空間で共有する、という新たな体験が混ざり合い、会場は静かな熱気で包まれて行きました。

さて、トーク後は「光」が解禁されました！
ここからはいつものミングリアスと同じく、歓談あり、お酒ありの時間です。 軽食とお酒はMAD2011修了生の浅井慧氏に腕をふるっていただきました。

新たな体験を共有した今回のミングリアス。小泉氏の作品と同様に、知覚を揺るがし、感覚が研ぎすまされる、貴重な体験の時間となりました。


Roppongi Crossing 2013 - Discursive Platform
Special Minglius - 'Meiro Koizumi Night! Sensing artwork'

As guests opened the door, they were greeted with a pitch black passage, without a single light. Presented in conjunction with Mori Art Museum as part of Roppongi Crossing 2013's Discursive Platform, the Special Minglius was organised by AIT and artist Meiro Koizumi and for the first time, was conducted in complete darkness.

Koizumi-san invited two guests to join the talk, Kazutoshi Kawamura - a blind man whom he had worked with in his previous work 'Defect in Vision' (2011), and Kazuya Takagawa - an artist working primarily with video. The night was different to the usual AIT Minglius, and with guests completed deprived of their ability to see, the familiar AIT room rendered a completely different space.

Guests were led one by one into the dark room, and asked to give a self-introduction (true or otherwise) before being shown to their seats. Without anyone to focus on for almost an hour, the guests in the room gradually became excited at the prospect of the talk commencing and all of sudden, from what appeared to be the wall, Koizumi-san announced, 'I'm Koizumi, welcome' and the mini talk began.

Koizumi-san spoke with the two guests about the ideas behind his works 'Defect in Vision' and 'Death Poem for a City', the latter of which is currently being shown as part of Roppongi Crossing 2013. Kawamura-san had visited the exhibition earlier in the week to view 'Death Poem for a City' with the artist, and his astute observations, combined with questions that couldn't easily be asked in a well-lit room made for an interesting discussion. The idea that even with our eyes open we can't see everything presented a new experience for the guests, with an air of excitement residing throughout the talk, as voices would suddenly emerge before disappearing back into the darkness.

Once the talk had finished, light returned to the room and the Minglius went back to normal. From there on, guests chatted with one another whilst enjoying finger food and drinks prepared by MAD2011 graduate, Kei Asai.

The final AIT Minglius for 2013 allowed guests to share a rather strange evening, and like Koizumi's artwork, challenged perceptions and sharpened senses - making it a valuable experience for all.

blackout curtains and tape.



トーク終了後、リラックスした様子で交流するアーティストたち。
昨年のエイトのレジデンスアーティスト、メルヴィン・モティ（オランダ）、
キュレーターのアナ・プタック（ポーランド）も参加しました。
After the talk, artists and guests relaxed and mingled. Former AIT residency artist,
Melvin Moti (Holland) and curator Anna Ptak (Poland) also joined.
