TOKYO AS FIELD

Not keeping a permanent white cube space allows us to work with different spaces and organisations to realize unusual or experimental projects. Funding is normally by specific grants from Japanese foundations.

Between 2002 - 2007 we curated the 'AIT Hour' series of experimental exhibitions, which were time-specific. For a specified time period a 'museum' would be set up in a disused school, shop or club. Artists, performers, speakers, DJ's, archives, films and objects were presented. This series was realized in Tokyo and concluded in Naha, Okinawa with 'Okinawa Time Museum'.

AIT has also worked with resident artists to realize performances and small exhibitions. Performances have been held in AIT Room as well as in the streets. Micro exhibitions have been organised on the walls of our classrooms by visiting curators.

'Minglius' is an irregular series of lounge bar nights held in AIT Room for students to get to know each other and generally enjoy themselves. Artists and curators have been guest DJ's.

The Archive pages are being gradually compiled and updated, so please bear with us.
